Tostones traditionally are a Puerto Rican dish. They are served typically as appetizers, snacks, or accompanied by an authentic Puerto Rican dish like Arroz y habichuelas.  It's merely a plantain, which is a very firm banana. If you haven't tried them, it's time to satisfy your curiosity and realize just what you've been missing.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • Plantains
  • Oil
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Butter

( YES, THAT'S IT!)

Steps

Step 1: Peel the skin off the plantain

Step 2: Cut them on an angle (5 - 8 pieces based on the size)

Step 3: Fry for about 3 - 4 minutes or until yellow

Step 4: Transfer to a plate and press down to flatten ( paper towel, spatula or any kitchen utensils will work)

Step 5: place back in oil and fry for approximately 1 minute or until golden brown

Step 6 Add salt for flavor and enjoy!
