The Tres Leches recipe is very popular in Latin American countries. This cake basically consists of a vanilla sponge cake, which is then covered with a mixture of condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream. It is consumed for celebrations or to treat yourself to a sweet treat during the day, although the preparation tends to change a little in each country, it always maintains its original touch, there are even variants such as a recipe for four milk cake.

Tres Leches Cake with Strawberries

Ingredients

For the cake

  • 5 eggs

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract

For the tres leches mixture

  • 1 cup of evaporated milk
  • 1 cup of condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla essence
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

For the meringue

  • 3 eggs (just the whites)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

To decorate

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Zest from the skin of a lemon

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400 ° F
  2. Separate the 5 whites from the egg yolks.
  3. Start 5 beat egg whites at medium speed until the mixture is foamy, then add sugar, vanilla, and egg yolks one by one until the mixture is bright and sparkling.
  4. Stop beating and incorporate the flour with a spatula little by little.
  5. Pour the mixture into a cake pan previously prepared paper waxed to prevent the cake from sticking.
  6. Bake the cake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. To prepare the mixture to bathe the cake, in a bowl, add the three milks and the cinnamon, beat until well-integrated and reserve.
  8. Take your cake out of the oven and let it cool for 20 minutes.
  9. Then bathe it with the milk mixture and put it in the fridge for another 20 minutes.
  10. For the meringue. You just must beat the egg whites until they are foamy and add the sugar and lemon juice. Beat until the meringue is the right consistency.
  11. Take your cake out of the fridge and decorate with the meringue, ground cinnamon, strawberries, and lemon zest. Enjoy.
