Forest Stewardship Volunteering

Starts: Wednesday, March 03, 2010 1:00 PM
Ends: Wednesday, March 03, 2010 4:00 PM

Enjoy the outdoors and be a steward of your local natural areas! To assist the ongoing forest restoration project at Conference House Park, we will spend this afternoon clearing invasive vines from around the trunks of young trees and shrubs or preparing ground for our spring plantings.  Learn about the local environment while you lend a hand toward a healthy ecosystem!

We will gather at or just outside the Visitors' Center (not the Conference House) at 1:00 p.m. Sturdy shoes and long pants are strongly recommended. If you're sensitive to poison ivy, a long-sleeve shirt to cover your wrists is a good idea, just in case. Gloves and any needed tools will be provided. Tap water and restrooms are available at the Visitors' Center.

Please RSVP to ensure you hear about alterations or cancellations. For RSVPs and questions, please call Cheri Brunault at (718) 390-8021, or email NatureCHP@parks.nyc.gov.

This event is typically held rain or shine. Hope to see you there!

Directions:

By Car: Travel south on Hylan Boulevard until the road ends in an intersection with Satterlee Street. Turn left into the parking lot of the Visitors' Center.

By Bus: Take the S78 to Tottenville, disembarking at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and Craig Avenue. Look south along Hylan Boulevard from this point, and you will see the Visitors' Center and parking lots on the left hand side.

By Train (+15 minute walk): Take the Staten Island Railway to the Tottenville stop. Exit the station by descending the ramp toward the water; this is Bentley Street. Walk up Bentley Street to Craig Avenue. Turn right on Craig Avenue and walk until you reach Hylan Boulevard. Look to your right, and you will see the Visitors' Center and parking lots on the left hand side of Hylan Boulevard.
